San Diego Fire-Rescue Ready to Respond During Dangerous Fire Weather Conditions
With Multiple Brush Fires Across the City This Week, Fire Officials Urge You to Do Your Part to Stay Safe
As the Border 2 fire continues to burn in the Otay Mountain Wilderness, prompting evacuation orders and warnings to the North and West of Otay Mountain, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) is fully staffed and equipped for any blaze that might spread due to the current dry weather conditions and strong winds.
In the past week, crews from SDFD, Cal Fire and other agencies have battled brush fires in Mission Valley, Rancho Bernardo and La Jolla.
“San Diego Fire continually monitors the weather throughout the day,” said SDFD Assistant Chief Dan Eddy, explaining how crews effectively extinguished the brush fire near the Fashion Valley Mall. “By doing so, we ensure we have the proper staffing and the proper amount of personnel and apparatus to ensure your safety. Our Community Risk Reduction Division provides weed abatement and door-to-door brush inspections.”
Close to 1,000 SDFD firefighters from 52 fire stations are ready to answer the call to ensure your safety in case of a fire, but the City of San Diego also urges you to do your part and be prepared for an emergency:
- Download the Genasys app to monitor fire-related activity in your area.
- Sign up for Alert San Diego, a countywide regional notification system that sends telephone notifications to residents and businesses within San Diego County impacted by, or in danger of being impacted by, an emergency or disaster. Sign up at readysandiego.org.
- Visit SDFD’s webpage and download the Ready, Set, Go! guide to developing emergency plans for wildfires. The guide includes checklists and tips on assembling emergency supplies and belongings, planning escape routes and packing emergency items.
- Visit the National Weather Service for the latest information on local warnings and weather conditions.
During an emergency, it is imperative that you follow the recommendations of public safety personnel. In the event of an evacuation, know your emergency exit routes and leave when you are directed to do so.
The San Diego Fire Department and the San Diego Police Department will share information during an emergency through radio, television and social media feeds. Follow @SDFD and @SanDiegoPD on X for updates.
