Safe Parking Program Helps Tackle Homelessness
The City’s Safe Parking Program is a lifeline for families and individuals in need of assistance. It provides a secure place to sleep in vehicles while receiving assistance to resolve homelessness. The Carrier family recently moved into housing after staying in a City-provided trailer at the Rose Canyon lot. Watch more to hear their story of resilience.
The Safe Parking Program has four locations with the capacity for approximately 220 vehicles. Each site is operated by nonprofit Jewish Family Service of San Diego.
The program serves a high percentage of residents who are experiencing homelessness for the first time, many who have income through benefits or employment. Families are also served in the Safe Parking Program, with a dozen RV trailers at the Rose Canyon lot set aside specifically for families to use.
