Renovations Underway on Historic Botanical Building in Balboa Park
Initial preparations are underway for the major renovation of the historic Botanical Building in Balboa Park! The $21 million Phase I project ($13 million in City funding and $8 million in state funding), will restore and revitalize this iconic structure, built as part of the original 1915 Panama California Exposition.
Construction preparation and site mobilization is underway and plants that are currently housed in the building will be temporarily relocated during the project. Phase I, which includes the restoration and renovation of the Botanical Building is scheduled to begin in March and is expected to be completed in Summer 2023. Phase II, which is spearheaded and funded by Forever Balboa Park, will address the restoration and revitalization of the historic pergola and the botanical garden collections and interpretations.
We'll provide regular updates as construction on the Botanical Building progresses!
