Enforcement of Councilmember Jennifer Campbell’s Sidewalk Vending Ordinance, which was unanimously amended by the City Council earlier this year, will begin on Friday, March 29, 2024.

The updated ordinance provides clarity on which vending activities are safeguarded under the First Amendment as free speech, and impounding measures for rogue vendors that fail to comply with the health and safety regulations.

“Thank you to my fellow City Councilmembers for their support in getting these amendments to the ordinance passed, and to all the City staff who worked diligently to help bring these amendments forward,” said Councilmember Campbell. “These amendments will protect permitted vendors who comply with all City requirements and help eliminate unlawful vending activities.”

SDPD officers and park rangers will be performing outreach to vendors this week and will begin strict enforcement of the ordinance on Friday, March 29.

“I want to thank Councilmember Campbell for bringing forward these amendments that have improved and strengthened our Sidewalk Vending Ordinance,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “This helps make our regulations and expectations clear and ensures San Diego’s public spaces serve all of us.”

Councilmember Jennifer Campbell represents District 2, which includes Clairemont, Mission Bay Park, Mission Beach, Old Town, Midway, Ocean Beach, and Point Loma.
