Dont toss your tree in the trash after the holidays! Starting Monday, Dec. 26, San Diegans can drop off their Christmas trees for free to be recycled and turned into high-quality mulch and compost, helping keep organic waste out of the landfill.

This morning City Council President Sean Elo-Rivera will kick off the City of San Diegos 49thannualChristmasTreeRecyclingProgram at the Miramar Greenery. Representatives from the Citys Environmental Services Department (ESD) will provide details about the program which features17 locationsaround the city where residents can drop off theirtrees to be recycled.

We encourage residents to bring their clean, undecoratedChristmastrees to any of our drop-off locations within the city, said Environmental Services Department Director Renee Robertson. Recyclingthesetrees helps us reduce the amount of waste going into the Miramar Landfill, and it helps the City meet its sustainability goals by converting thetrees into high-quality mulch and compost that residents can pick up for free at the Miramar Landfill.
